Reading the numbers
Every figure is money an agency committed in the fiscal year picked — signed contracts and awarded grants, counted when each action happened, not cash out the door.
Picking award types recomputes every total as just those dollars — filter to grants and the table answers who writes the grant checks, not who has any grants. Agencies with nothing in the selection drop out.
All years starts at fiscal year 2018, the first year of complete federal-assistance reporting. Earlier years aren't shown rather than shown wrong.
An award count is the number of distinct awards with at least one action that year — each counted once, however many times it was amended.
