What it does: STARTALK is a federal grant program that provides funding and support to institutions to conduct K-16 language student education and teacher development programs of critical need languages that meet the national security and defense priorities. Through these programs, STARTALK seeks to achieve the following: - Stimulate significant increases in the number of students enrolled in the study of critical languages; - Increase the quality and supply of teachers of critical languages throughout the nation; - Improve the quality and effectiveness of critical language curriculum.
Who benefits: Private, public educational institutions and other private, public nonprofit organizations which are operated primarily for language and are not organized primarily for profit.
Who applies: Must be a US college or university, public or private school system, or not-for-profit language educations institution/organization in order to apply for a STARTALK grant. The program staff must be US Citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Program eligibility will be determined by NSA's STARTALK program office.
