River Partners Requested Funding From the Central Valley Project Improvement Act Habitatrestoration Program to Support the Restoration of 400 Acres of Riparian Habitat to Benefit Federallythreatened Yellow-billed Cuckoo ( Coccyzus Americanus Occidentalis) and Valley Elderberrylonghorn Beetle (desmocerus Califomicus Dimorphus) at the Llano Seco Riparian Sanctuary Unitof the Sacramento River National Wildlife Refuge. Project Implementation Focuses Onrestoration Activities That Will Create Quality Riparian Habitat to Help U.s. Fish and Wildlifeservice (USFWS) Achieve Its Goals of Contributing to the Recovery of Endangered and Threatenedspecies and Provide a Natural Diversity and Abundance of Migratory Birds and Anadromous Fishthrough Restoration and Management of Viable Riparian Habitats Along the Sacramento River. Theplanting Design Incorporates a Mosaic of Vegetation Types: Mixed Riparian Forest, Valley Oakwoodland, Valley Oak Savanna, Elderberry Savanna and Great Valley Grassland. in Combination,these Plant Communities Will Create High Quality, Structurally Complex Habitat That Will Attractyellow-billed Cuckoos, Valley Elderberry Longhorn Beetles, Neo-tropical Migratory Songbirds,monarch Butterflies and Other Native Pollinators.restoration of the Riparian Sanctuary Unit Will Reduce Habitat Fragmentation and Improve Habitatconnectivity. With Restricted Natural Riverine Processes and Increasing Pressure Associated Withclimate Change, It Is Imperative That River Partners Use Revegetation as a Tool to Connect Existingriparian Habitats That Serve as Migration Corridors. the Site-specific Restoration Design Forriparian Sanctuary Builds in Climate Resiliency Where a Combination of Native Plant Species Cancontinue to Thrive Under Projected Climate Conditions (changes in Temperatures, Precipitation),allowing the Persistence of These Corridors Needed for Wildlife Populations to Migrate.cvpia Funding Will Specifically Contribute to the Following Restoration Activities: Projectmanagement, Planning Permitting, Project Implementation (planting), and Monitoring Andreporting.
