The Municipality of Caguas Request $2600000 Competitive Section 5339 Bus and Bus Facilities Fy 17 Lapsing Funds to Renovate the 40-YEAR-OLD Francisco Pereira Transportation Terminal. the Total Budget for This Application Is $3250000 ($2600000 Federal and $650000 Local).the Francisco Pereira Transportation Terminal Was Constructed in 1980. This Facility Has Not Experienced Any Major Repairs in the Almost 40 Years They It Has Been in Operation. the Building Has Experienced the Corrosion Wear and Tear Caused by the Extremely Hot and Humid Tropical Weather Several Hurricanes and Frequent Tropical Storms That Hit the Area. on August 30 2017 the Municipality Was Awarded Grant PR-2017-015-00 to Repair and Upgrade the Transportation Terminal and a Total Budget of $3289403 ($2631522 Federal and $657522 Local) in Section 5339 Formula Funds. However the Project Scope Changed From Repairs and Upgrades to the Reconstruction of the Facility. the Terminal Also Suffered Cracks in Some Walls of Its First-floor Office Area Caused by Recent Small Quakes and Telluric Movements That Are Frequent in the Island. It Is Necessary to Carry Out a Major Repair Effort to Prevent These From Weakening the Area Further and Even Caused Its Closure in the Future. as Much as Funds Allow the Municipality Will Also Seek to Renovate Passenger Service Areas to Make Them More Appealing to Riders and Transportation Providers. It Hopes to Convert It Into an Attractive Commercial Venture That Will Generate Much Needed Revenue to Support the Implementation of the Transcriollo Transportation Program. on April 30 2021 the Municipality of Caguas Was Awarded Grant PR-2021-012-00 for Section 5324 Emergency Relief Funds. in This Award a Total of $486096 ($486096 Federal and $48610 Transportation Development Credits) Were Assigned for Permanent Repairs of the Terminal Administrative Office Correction of the Terminal 2ND Floor Water Leaks Terminal Painting and Acquisition of Electronic Boards Due to the Damages Caused by Hurricane Maria. the Total Cost of the Permanent Repairs Was $682055 But the Municipality Received $195959 From Its Insurance Company. No Other Source of Federal Funding Was Received. the Municipality of Caguas Currently Has an Additional $4768478 in Section 5339 Formula Funds Programed in the 2019-2022 Stip Amendment #2 Item #2 Page FTA-32.
