Table Mountain Rancheria

The Objective of This Grant Is to Conduct Formal Consultation Between Tribal Leadership From the Five Tribes Thatmake Up the Central California Yokuts Nagpra Coalition (table Mountain Rancheria, Santa Rosa Indian Community of the Santa Rosa Rancheria, Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians, California, Tule River Indian Tribe Ofthe Tule River Reservation, and the Tejon Indian Tribe) and the University of California, Davis. the Tribes Wishto Initiate Formal Consultation for Ancestral Yokuts Human Remains, Associated Funerary Objects, Unassociatedfunerary Objects From Archaeological Sites in Alameda, Amador, Calaveras, Contra Costa, and San Joaquin Countiesas Well as Sacred Objects and Objects of Cultural Patrimony Predominantly From the C. Hart Merriam Collectionscollected From the Rancherias and Reservation of the Five Tribes Between 1901 and 1930.FUNDED Grant Activities Will Consist of Two Representatives From Each of the Five Tribes Along With Two Support Staff From Table Mountain Rancheria, the Applicant, Will Travel to Uc Davis Four Times in the Spring, Summer Andfall of 2025. During Consultation Visits, Tribal Leadership and Staff Will Meet Uc Davis Nagpra Project Managermegon Noble and Staff. Further Research by the Tribes in Consultation With Uc Davis Needs to Be Conducted. C.hart Merriam Journal, Notebooks and Photographs From the Bancroft Library, Uc Berkeley and the Library Ofcongress May Well Shed Light on the Culture and History of These Objects and How They Were Acquired. the Goal Ofthis Consultation Is the Eventual Repatriation of Nagpra Eligible Human Remains and Objects Back to the Tribes.
