15.944 Natural Resource Stewardship the Natural Resource Stewardship Program Is the Principle Means Through Which the National Park Service (NPS) Evaluates and Improves the Health of Watersheds, Landscapes, and Marine and Coastal Resources, Sustains Biological Communities on the Lands and Waters in Parks, and Actively Endeavors to Improve the Resiliency of These Natural Resources and Adapt Them to the Effects of Climate Change. to Carry Out and Further This Stewardship Responsibility, NPS Implements Programs That Encompass a Broad Range of Research, Operational, and Educational Activities by Utilizing Park Personnel and Contractor Support Cooperative Agreements. the Goals of This Project Are to (1) Address Research Questions About Giant Sequoia Water Use, Tree Canopy Physiology, Native Bark Beetles, Fire, and Other Novel Stressors Facing Giant Sequoias in a Changing Climate (2) Conserve Giant Sequoia and Other Ancient Tree Species Gene Pools by Collecting Cones, Storing Seed, Screening for Blister Rust Resistance, Potentially Planting Seedlings, and Implementing Other Conservation and Restoration Measures as Needed (3) Communicate Outcomes of This Work to the Giant Sequoia Lands Coalition (GSLC), Which Is an Organized Collaboration of Public and Non-governmental Organizations With a Shared Commitment Aimed at the Conservation of Giant Sequoia Grove Ecosystems..
