1 Funding Opportunity Number P22AS001182 Funding Opportunity Goals Funding Opportunity No P22AS00118 Fy 2022 Preservation Technology and Training Grants PTT Grants Are Awarded Competitively and Are Intended to Create Better Tools, Materials, and Approaches to Conserving Buildings, Landscapes, Sites, and Collections the PTT Grants Are Administered by the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training Ncptt , the National Park Service S Innovation Center for the Preservation Community 3 Program Goals and Beneficiaries the PTT Competitive Grants Program Will Provide Funding to Federal Agencies, States, Tribes, Local Governments, and Non Profit Organizations PTT Grants Will Support the Following Activities Innovative Research That Develops New Technologies or Adapts Existing Technologies to Preserve Cultural Resourcesspecialized Workshops or Symposia That Identify and Address National Preservation Needshow to Videos, Mobile Applications, Podcasts, Best Practices Publications, or Webinars That Disseminate Practical Preservation Methods or Provide Better Tools for Preservation Practicethe Research Project in This Application Will Be Conducted in Two Phases the First Phase Focuses on Thoroughly Researching Oxidation and Efflorescence Mechanisms of Elemental Sulfur in Organic Materials, Alone and Combined With Polyethylene Glycol Consolidants for This Purpose, a Literature Review Will Be Compiled, and Then Experiments Will Be Developed and Conducted This Phase Requires Hiring a Conservation Science Researcher Student for a Twelve Week Period the Second Phase Will Focus on the Removal of Elemental Sulfur From Waterlogged Organics Design and Implementation of Experiments Will Be Based on the Results of the First Phase This Project Will Benefit the Public in Two Ways 1 Determine New Techniques to Improve Preservation of Organic Collections, Thereby Benefiting the Conservation Profession and 2 Preserving Collections for Engagement, Providing a Benefit That Is Unique to the Museum Field Context Providing Context Is the Process of Using Artifacts to Engage the Public, Helping to Increase Their Understanding of Complex Ideas
