Douglas County Health Department Strengthening U.s. Public Health Infrastructure, Workforce, and Data Systems CDC-RFA-OE22-2203 - Despite the Strain and Resulting Leadership and Staff Turnover and Burnout From Covid, the Douglas County Health Department (DCHD) Has Made Critical Progress in Omaha, Nebraska. the Douglas County Board of Health Declared Racism a Public Health Crisis in June 2020, Which Included 22 Action Steps to Ensure Implementation Priorities and Accountability. With Numerous Partners, Including North Omaha, South Omaha, and Refugee, Immigrant, and Migrant (RIM) Communities, DCHD Has Stood Up an Office of Health Equity That Is Working Tirelessly on Building Equity Across DCHD, Establishing Coalitions to Address Health Disparities, and Building an Equity Lens Into Data and Policy Mechanisms. Under the Leadership of the Deputy Health Director and Health Equity Advisor, and Through a Strengthened and Equity-focused Workforce, Foundational Capabilities, and Data Modernization, DCHD Will Be a Nationally Relevant Case Study for How Racism as Public Health Crisis Was Successfully Implemented in a Mid-sized Midwestern Metro.
