The North Pacific Research Board Was Created by Congress Under Title Iv of HR 2107, and Tasked to Conduct Research Activities on or Relating to the Fisheries or Marine Ecosystems in the North Pacific Ocean, Bering Sea, and Arctic Ocean. the NPRB Has Established a Competitive Process for Awarding Sub-grants Based on Priorities and Criteria Established by the Board; Research Priorities Follow Input Given by the Public, Industry Partners, North Pacific Research Boards Science and Advisory Panels, and Board Members. the Priorities Are Addressed Through Five Complementary and Competitive Research Programs: Core, Integrated Ecosystem Research, Long-term Monitoring, Outreach, and Graduate Student Research Awards. While the Board Creates Funding Recommendations, the Secretary of Commerce, Through His Designee, Has Final Approval Authority Over Projects Recommended by the North Pacific Research Board.
