This FY24 Brep Project Proposes to Conduct Full-scale Testing of Their Ropeless System With 20 Fishers With the Objective to Implement This On-demand Fishing Gear During the Spring Closure in the Fishery. to Meet This Objective, the Researchers Propose to Achieve Alternative Gear Authorization for the California Dungeness Crab Fishery Under the New California Risk Assessment and Mitigation Program Regulations, Achieve Scale-up Capacity for the Gear Commensurate With the Expected Demand Associated With Authorization, Formalize the Training Program for the Gear to Assure Proficiency at Scale, and Refine Available Interoperability and Enforcement Capabilities to Minimize Gear Conflict and Assure Enforceability.
