California Trout Will Be Awarded $3,257,851 to Remove a Total Barrier on the Mainstem of the Santa Margarita River in Southern California and Replace It With a 575-FOOT Bridge. the New Bridge Will Be Sized for Climate Change, as It Will Accommodate a 500-YEAR Flood Event. It Will Also Allow Endangered Southern California Steelhead Access to 12 Miles of Upstream Habitat, Decrease Roadway Flooding, and Restore Natural Channel Processes Such as Wood and Gravel Movement. in Addition, the Project Will Engage the Public Including the Pechanga Tribe and California-rated Severely Disadvantaged Communities in Construction and Educational Aspects of the Project. Additional Education and Job Development Efforts Will Be Implemented, Including Natural Resource-based Workshops and Trainings.
