Award Purpose This Grant Program Assists States in Developing and Enforcing State Mining Laws and Regulations, Improve State Workers' Compensation and Mining Occupational Disease Laws and Programs, and Improve Safety and Health Conditions in the Nation's Mines Through Federal-state Coordination and Cooperation. the States Also Provide Federally Mandated Training and Retraining of Miners, Mine Operators, and Others Working at Surface and Underground Coal and Metal and Nonmetal Mines. Activities Performed the State Training Programs Are Recognized as a Key Source of Mine Safety and Health Training and Education for Individuals Who Work or Will Work at Mines. State Training Programs Are Encouraged to Prioritize Training and Retraining for Small Mining Operations and Underserved Communities Within the Mining Industry to Reduce Injuries and Accidents at Mine. Recipients May Create or Develop Training Materials to Address the Safety and Health Conditions at a Mine and for Msha Initiatives. Deliverables Recipients Will Report the Number of Miners, Mine Operators, and Others Trained in Different Federally Mandated Training. Effective Training Reduces Accidents and Injuries, and Recipients Are to Evaluate the Impact of Their Programs on Improving the Working Conditions and Practices at Mines. Recipient May Also Provide Any Training Materials Created or Developed to Msha for Use by the Mining Industry. Intended Beneficiary This Program Provides Training for Miners, Mine Operators, and Others to Improve the Working Conditions and Practices at Mines to Prevent Accidents and Reduce Occupational Injuries and Illnesses at Mines.
