Cornerstones Community Partnerships

The Objective of This Project Is to Conduct a Series of Training Workshops at Fort Cummings Focused on the Stabilization and Preservation of the Historic Fort Walls and Their Surrounding Environment. These Workshops Will Consider the Entirety of the Site But Focus on Advanced Adobe Preservation Techniques. the Expected Outcome Is a Series of Training Workshops on Adobe Preservation Open to Historic Preservation Interns, Local and Regional Volunteers, and Others. These Training Will Have a Hands-on and Learn-by-doing Approach to Adobe Wall Preservation and All Associated Features (site Drainage, Access, Associated Structures, Etc.) Where Students and Beginners Learn Alongside Professionals in the Fieldpublic Benefit: the Workshops Will Provide Public Benefit to the Surrounding Communities Through a Chance to Participate Directly in Training Related to the Preservation of Adobe Structures. These Workshops Will Be Directed at Training for Luna County and Other Surrounding Counties, Which Are Majority Hispanic, Rural, and Low Income. These Workshops Will Help to Bring Back Traditional Materials and Methods to Communities That Have Largely Lost These Construction Techniques Through Cultural Assimilation. the Project Will Also Provide Temporary Employment to Individuals Within the Typically Under-served Community of Deming, NM, Thus Allowing the Project to Satisfy BLM Priorities of Centering Equity and Environmental Justice and Executive Order 13985.BLM Benefit: This Series of Training Workshops on Adobe Preservation Will Be Open to Historic Preservation Interns, Local and Regional Volunteers, BLM Staff, and Others. These Training Will Have a Hands-on and Learn-by-doing Approach to Adobe Wall Preservation and All Associated Features (site Drainage, Access, Associated Structures, Etc.)
