The Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District Fuels Reduction Hwy 50 Project Is a 90 to 115 Acre Fuels Reduction Project Located in Two Distinct Areas Along the Northern Section of Us Highway 50 in the Lake Tahoe Basin Between Glenbrook and Zephyr Cove, NV. These Areas Are Prone to Heavy Vehicle Traffic in the Summer Months and Are Forested Lands That Are in Close Proximity to Homes. These Project Areas Are Within the Defense Zone in the Wui. the Project Is Necessary to Prevent Impacts to the Community and Environment From Catastrophic Wildfire. This Treatment Will Help to Modify Potential Fire Behavior Such That Firefighters Will Be Able to Safely Protect Life, Property, and the Environment From an Approaching Wildland Fire. This Project Will Also Drastically Increase the Sustain Ability of the Ecosystems by Returning the Environment Back to a More Natural Landscape in Terms of Vegetation, Tree Density, and Species Composition.
