Application Purpose: the Purpose of the Project Is for the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) to Design and Construct the First Phase of Darts New Operations and Maintenance Facility. Phase 1 Will Consist of Constructing the Maintenance Building Parts Room Facilities and the Associated Site Preparation. Specifically the Project Scope Includes Land Acquisition Ae Construction and Equipment for the First Phase of a New Operations and Maintenance Facility That Will Replace an Outdated and Undersized Facility From 1977. the Phase 1 Maintenance Building Will Sit on 37 Acres at the Intersection of Se 36TH ST and Vandalia Road Southeast of Downtown Des Moines and Most Importantly Outside the Immediate Flood Plain. the 82000 Square Foot Maintenance Building and 106000 Square Foot Storage Barn Will Occupy 16 Acres of the Site and Include a Modern Maintenance Shop Paint Booth Parts Office With Inventory Storage Fare Collection Equipment and Money Room Mechanical Room Facility Maintenance Storeroom Fueling Lane Bus Wash and Barn; the Project Will Also Include 110000 Square Feet of Paving. the Subsequent Phase Will Complete the Storage Barn to Accommodate the Entire Dart Fleet With an Additional 106000 Square Feet Along With a 25000 Square Foot Operations and Administration Building on the Remaining Area of the Site.; Activities Performed: Land Acquisition Activities (appraisals Legal Acquisition)design (ae)facility Construction (site Prep Construction Equipment Purchase and Installation Soft Costs Including Contingency); Expected Outcomes: the Proposed Facility Has the Following Benefits:better Access to Public Transportation by Designing and Constructing a Facility That Increases Efficiency and Improved Environmental Benefitssound Investment in Public Funds That Support a New Updated and Energy Efficient Facility Rather Than Continue to Invest in an Older Inefficient Structure That Has Significant Operational Challenges and Risksreduced Risk of Major System Failures Breakdowns And/or Flooding Events Which Leads to a Lower Cost and Less Time Maintaining an Old Aging High Risk Structuresized Appropriately for Todays Vehicles Technology and Service Needssafety: Wider Lanes and Door Openings Improved Circulation Pattern Removal of Blind Spotsimproved Condition of the Buses by Lowering Downtime for Maintenance Resulting in Improved Reliabilityimproved Training Opportunities for Staff and Higher Employee Morale; Intended Beneficiaries: This Grant Will Benefit the Riders of Public Transit in the Greater Des Moines Metropolitan Area and in Polk County.; Subrecipient Activities: There Are No Subrecipients for This Grant.
