Fy 2021 Ending the Hiv Epidemic - Primary Care Hiv Prevention - Project Title: Hiv Prevention in New Orleans Applicant Organization Name: Start Corporation Address: 106 School Street Houma, La 70360 Project Director: Casey Guidry Contact Phone Number: 985-856-6115 Email Address: Casey@startcorp.org Website Address: Www.startcorp.org Health Center Program Grant Number: H80CS28964 Project Summary Start Corporation, a Louisiana Nonprofit Established in 1984 With an Annual Budget of $36 Million, Proposes Hiv Prevention in New Orleans, a Program to Increase the Number of Clients Counseled and Screened for Hiv, to Increase the Number of Clients Prescribed Prep, and to Increase the Number of Clients Linked to Hiv Care and Treatment Within 30 Days of Diagnosis. as a Critical Service Provider, Start Corporation Operates Many Programs Serving Individuals and Families Experiencing Homelessnesss, Those With a Disability, And/or Diagnosed With Mental Illness. Start Corporation Has Recently Expanded the Physical Infrastructure of Its Galvez Street Clinic in New Orleans to Meet Demand and Will Use Program Funding to Staff This Clinic With a Nurse Practitioner, a Medical Assistant, and an Outreach Worker to Screen at Least 1,000 Clients for Hiv During the Grant Period. Start Corporation Will Serve All New Orleans Residents With a Focused Subpopulation of Individuals Experiencing Homelessness. These Clients Will Be Recruited From Local Homeless Shelters, Including Those Operated by Start Corporation and Partner Organizations, and From Street Outreach Teams. Specifically, Start Corporation’s Low Barrier Shelter Has Recently Expanded Its Capacity From 100 Beds to 350 Beds, Demonstrating the Need for Additional Hiv Intervention and Prevention Within This Specific Area. Integrating Evidence-based Practices Such as Trauma-informed Care and Motivational Interviewing, Start Corporation Will Implement Universal Testing (opt-out Testing) for All Clients to Screen for Hiv, Hepatitis C, and Syphilis. Start Corporation Aims for 80% of Individuals Who Test Positive for Hiv to Be Linked to Care at the Galvez Street Clinic Within 30 Days of Diagnosis. Additionally, Start Will Prescribe Prep to at Least 200 Patients Annually (400 Total). the Program Will Also Provide a Vehicle for Outreach and Client Transportation. for the Two-year Grant Period, Start Corporation Requests $650,000 to Reach These Program Goals and Objectives.
