Project Title: Geochemical and Geochronological Basemap of Utah S Great Basin and Transition Zone Intrusive Unitsproject Period: 04 01 2026 to 03 31 2029PURPOSE: the Utah Geological Survey (UGS) Provides Timely, Objective Scientific Information Aboutinformed Decision Making. Under This Project, the Ugs Proposes to Conduct a Regional Whole Rockgeochemistry and U-pb Dating Geochemical Assessment Over the Eastern Basin and Range Physiographicprovince in Western Utah and the Transition Zone Between the Basin and Range and Colorado Plateauphysiographic Provinces. the Geoc -exposedintrusive Units Is Intended to Provide Data That Will Support 1) Deciphering Magmatic Evolution, 2)CLARIFYING the Timing and Geochemical Fingerprints of Metallogenic Epochs, and 3) Interpretingoverprinting Mineral Systems in the Eastern Great Basin. the Products of This Project Will Aid Criticalmineral Characterization and Exploration in Utah by Providing Foundational Geological Data That Can Beused in Prime Terrane Modeling and Mineral Vectoring Methodologies.activities to Be Performed:ugs Will Collect 400 Whole Rock Geochemistry and 115 Geochronology Samples From Surface-exposedintrusive Units Across the State. Sampling Will Be Divided Into Regional Coverage and Detailed Coverage.regional Sampling Is Focused on Representative Samples Across Large Areas to Improve Coverage Overimportant Mineral Belts in Utah. Detailed Sampling Will Be Reserved for Three to Four High Impact Criticalmineral Districts That Have Been Under Sampled to Date. Sampling Will Take Place in Two to Three Iterativestages That Will Be Completed Within the First Two Years of the Project to Allow Time for All Analyses to Becompleted and for Interpretation of Results. the First Stage of Sampling Will Be Concurrent With Anexpanded Literature Review for Existing Geochronological Data and With the Formation of a Centralizedugs Whole Rock Geochemistry Database. Whole Rock Geochemistry Analyses Will Be Conducted Throughthe Usgs, as Well 75 of the 115 Geochronology Samples. the Remaining Samples Will Be Sent to Acommercial Geochronology Lab.deliverablesthe Deliverables Resulting From This Project Will Be:progress Reports on the Intervals Required by the Grant Award (e.g., Semi-annually).geospatial Databases for the Whole Rock Geochemistry and Geochronology Data Acquired Duringthis Project (new Analyses and Compiled Data). the Geodatabase Schema Will Be Compatible Withusgs Earth Mri Geochemical Datasets and Will Be Publicly Available Through a Webmapa Final Summary Report Detailing the Methodology, Field Observations, Analytical Results, Andpreliminary Interpretations of the Data, Particularly With Respect to Mineral, Including Criticalmineral, Resources and Exploration in the Eastern Basin and Range. the Report Will Be Madepublic Through a Ugs Publication, Which Is a Rigorous Peer-review Process Resulting in a Reportbeneficiaries: Industry, Consultants, Government Agencies (federal, State, Tribal, and Local), Academia,educators, Students, and the Public.
