Project Title: Enhancement of the Isc-gem Catalog in Support of the Usgs Earthquake Hazard Data Productsproject Period: 9 1 2024 Through 8 31 2026AWARD Notice: the Recipient Plans to Enhance the Isc-gem Catalog That in Turn Will Support Further Development of Several Key Usgs Earthquake Hazard Products. the Isc-gem Catalog Is Unique Because It Answers the Specific Needs of Seismic Hazard Research. It Provides Long-term, Uninterrupted, and Homogeneous (to the Largest Possible Extent) Data on Moderate to Large Earthquakes Worldwide During the Entire Period of Instrumental Recordings (1904-PRESENT).ACTIVITIES to Be Performed: the Recipient Identified Several Areas Where the Isc-gem Catalog Would Benefit Fromfurther Work to Improve the Completeness and Accuracy of Earthquake Parameters and Related Uncertainties. All Earthquake Parameters Will Be Re-assessed Using the Instrumental Measurements Made at Seismic Stations Around the World. a Large Proportion of the Basic Information for This Project Will Be Sourced From Paper-basedhistorical Station Bulletins and More Than Two Thousand Scientific Articles. All Hypocenters Will Be Re-computed With a Modern Location Technique and Velocity Model. the Magnitudes Will Be Represented in the Same Scale, MW. Each Earthquake Parameter (location, Depth, Magnitude) Will Have an Estimate of Uncertainty and Quality. the Project Will Produce Reliable MS and MB for Many Historical Events Some of Which Never Had Such Estimates in the Past. the Recipient Shall Also Bring Into Digital Existence Historical Station Arrival Picks, as Well as Body Andsurface Wave Amplitude Measurements That Were Not Available Digitally in the Past.deliverables and Expected Outcomes: the Recipient Plans Several Releases of Substantially Updated Versions of the Isc-gem Catalog for Their Consequent Usage in Key Usgs Earthquake Hazard Products.intended Beneficiaries: the Data From the Isc-gem Catalog Serves as the Backbone for the Early Part Ofthe Anss Comprehensive Earthquake Catalog (comcat). It Directly Contributes to the Usgs Seismic Hazard Mapping and Forecasting in the Us and Latin America. the Catalog Helps to Improve the Base Knowledge for Calibrating the Loss Models Used by Pager (prompt Assessment of Global Earthquakes for Response) to Help Governmental and Relief Agencies.
