Project Title: Ugs FY2024 Geologic Data Preservation Projectproject Period: 7 1 2024 Through 6 30 2025PROJECT Purpose: the Utah Geological Survey (UGS) Provides Timely, Objective Scientific Information About Utahs Geologic Environment, Resources, and Hazards to All Utahns to Improve Their Lives Through Informed Decision Making. Preserving and Enabling Easy Access to These Materials Is Critical to the Long Term Survival of Important Geologic Data, Enabling and Improving Natural Resource Stewardship, Lowering Development and Infrastructure Costs, Protecting the Public From Geologic Hazards, and Fulfilling Their Statutory Mission. It Is Critical That This Data Be Cataloged and Preserved for Current and Future Use, as Demands for Natural Resources, Development in Geologically Hazardous Areas, and Environmental Issues Increase. This Project Will Enable the Ugs to Catalog and Digitally Convert a Portion of Our Uniqueholdings for Easier Access by Users, as Well as Preserving Them Long-term for the Future. the Project Will Also Involve the Purchase of Equipment Used for Preserving and Digitizing These Materials.activities to Be Performed: the Ugs Proposes to Extract Boring Log Data and Update the Utah Subsurface Geotechnical Database Scan and Catalog Geologic, Geologic Hazard, and Mineral Related Maps and Documents That Will Be Available Through Various Databases on the Ugs Website (https: Geology.utah.gov Apps Intgeomap , Https: Geology.utah.gov Apps Rockcore, Https: Geodata.geology.utah.gov, and Https: Geology.utah.gov Energy-minerals Metals Mineral-files) Digitize One Geologic Map in an Area of Critical Mineral Significance Submit 200 Critical Mineral Related Samples to the U.s. Geological Survey (USGS) for Geochemical Analysis and Purchase Data Preservation and Rock Processing and Logging Equipment as Part of This Project.deliverables and Expected Outcomes: Deliverables Proposed From This Project Include the Submittal of Item-level Metadata, as Appropriate, and a Final Technical Report Describing the Project and Its Results and to the Usgs, Along With Updating Various Ugs Online Databases Listed Above.intended Beneficiary(ies): Industry, Consultants, Government Agencies (federal, State, Tribal, and Local), Academia, Educators, Students, and the Public Currently Use Collections and Data Held by the Ugs in a Variety of Projects and Programs. Subrecipient Activities: to Be as Cost-effective as Possible, We Plan to Continue Utilizing Digital Scanning (documents, Large Format Sheets Maps, Photographs, Slides, Etc.) and Data Entry Services (metadata) Provided by the State of Utah, Utah Correctional Industries in Salt Lak E City, Utah.
