Since 2001, Deltares and the Usgs Have Been Collaborating Intensively on Coastal Morphodynamic Research. This Collaboration Is Linked to the Coastal and Marine Geology Program and Is Operated From Science Centers in Santa Cruz (california), ST. Petersburg (florida), and Woods Hole (massachusetts). the Purpose of the Collaboration Is to Further Coastal Research in General Across a Broad Range of Disciplines (hydrodynamics, Morphodynamics, Ecology, Hydrology) and to Increase the Ability of Usgs to Carry Out Integrated System Modeling of Coastal Areas. Activities to Be Performed:deltares Usa Will Provide Operational Support the Coastal Storm Modeling System for the North Coast of California and the Columbia River to Usgs Investigators. Our Project (numerical Modelling in Rivers, Estuaries, and Coastal Waters) Will Generate Model Derived Data on Water Level, Discharge Rates Sediment Transport Rates, Flood Extents, and Possibly Other Relevant Coastal Modeling Parameters. Deliverables and Expected Outcomes:this Research Proposal Includes Coastal Research Topics Relating to, But Not Limited to, Sediment Budgets, Sea Level Rise, Processes in Complex Estuaries Such as the Columbia River and San Francisco Bay, Coastal Hazards Along the California Coast, the Impacts of Extreme Events (coastal Storms, Like Hurricanes and Tsunamis) on Coastal Evolution, and the Effects of Vegetation on Hydrodynamics and Sediment Transport. Specifically, the Research Will Focus on Six Main Research Themes: 1. Hydro-morphodynamics of Sandy and Muddy Coasts and Sediment Management 2. Hydro-morphodynamics of Coral, Gravel, Rock and Vegetated Coasts 3. Dynamics and Impacts of Extreme Events in the Current and Past Climate 4. Coastal Ecosystems and Water Quality 5. Innovative Tools, Modeling and Data Acquisition 6.
