Project Period: 2 20 24-2 19 25PROJECT Title: Aftershock Forecast Serious Gameaccording to the California Earthquake Authority, There Is More Than a 99 Chance That One or More M6.7 or Greater Earthquakes Will Strike in California Within the Next 30 Years. Since Damaging Earthquakes Are Inevitable, This Project Aims to Develop a Tool to Communicate Data and Information About the Infrequent and Unusual Events of Earthquake Aftershock Forecasting. the Proposed Tool Will Be an Experiential Interactive Computer Application: Serious Game Module. This Module Will Be Created by a Team With Diverse Skills and Makeup Consisting of Students and Faculty From Disciplines Such as Design, Art, Animation, Programming, Video Production, Public Relations, and Journalism, Found in the Media, Entertainment and Technology Experience Collaboration at California State University, Chico. This Project Will Present Scientific Information About Aftershock Forecasts in a Desktop Pc-based Serious Game Format Designed Initially for Emergency Managers. the Game Will Have Immersive Storylines to Build Diversity Into the Game, Including Diverse Roles (e.g., Emergency Manager, Search and Rescue, Hazard Mitigation, Public Safety Educators) and or Diverse Communities Through Player Avatar Customization. the Project Team Will Also Develop Public Relations and Marketing Tactics to Help Raise Awareness of the Serious Game Amongst the Intended Audience.the Data and Scenarios Within the Serious Game Will Integrate Information From the United States Geological Survey. This Information Includes Data From the Haywired Scenario, California Earthquake Sequences and Aftershock Forecasts, Visualizations of Aftershock Forecasts, and Decision-making Use Cases for Aftershock Forecasts. the Game Development Process Includes Two-week Agile Scrum Sprint Cycles and Milestone Deliverables of Proof of Concept, Electronic Core Loop Prototype, Alpha, Beta, and Release Game Versions.today, Community Decision-makers and Emergency Responders May Be Less Prepared to Use Aftershock Forecasts Versus Common Hazard Forecasts Such as Weather-related Hazardous Events. the Focus on Aftershock Forecasts Has Several Potential Benefits, Such as Increased Awareness of These Events and the Tools Available to Analyze Them, Assisting With Regional or Community-level Preparedness Through Aftershock Forecast Scenarios, and Enhancing Decision-making and Communication Skills Through Interactive Scenarios in the Gameplay. the Initial Target Audience of the Serious Game Is Critical Decision-makers Such as Local, State, or Federal Emergency Managers. These Managers Can Practice Using Aftershock Forecasting for Emergency Planning and Decision-making Purposes. the Serious Game May Expand to Additional Audiences, Such as Public Safety Educators, in Future Phases of Development.
