Project Title:utah Geological Survey FY2022 Geologic Data Preservation Projectperiod of Performance: 7/1/2022 Through 6/30/2023AS Part of the U.s. Geological Survey (USGS) FY2022 National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program (NGGDPP) Funding, the Utah Geological Survey (UGS) Plans to Digitize Geotechnical Exploration Data for a 3D Geologic Subsurface Database; to Scan and Create Metadata for Geologic Documents, Maps, Aerial Photography, and Other Data; Rescue At-risk Rock Core; Photograph Rock Core; Improve the Physical Infrastructure Supporting Our Collections; Attend the 2022 Data Rescue and Preservation Workshop; Create a Gis Product for the Jarvis Peak Quadrangle; Digitize and Archive Historical Mineral Document Files; Compile Lithium and Cobalt Mineral Geochemical Data; Compile Intrusive Geologic Unit Data; Update the Mineral Resources of Utah Web Map; and Attend the 2022 Earth Mapping Resources Initiative (earth Mri) Critical Mineral Workshop.this Project Is Anticipated to Create Additional Data for Inclusion in the Utah 3D Subsurface Database, the Ugs Geodata Archive, the Utah Aerial Imagery Database, the Utah Geologic Map Portal, and the Utah Core Research Center Core Inventory. a Gems Compliant Digital Geologic Map of the Jarvis Peak Quadrangle Will Be Produced. a Report Detailing the Ugs Critical Minerals Data Preservation Plan Will Be Produced.the Ugs Provides Timely, Objective Scientific Information About Utah's Geologic Environment, Resources, and Hazards to All Utahns to Improve Their Lives Through Informed Decision Making. the Ugs Is the Only Public Organization in Utah That Actively Collects and Manages Various Geologic Information Resources of Utah, Is Charged in State Code (section 79-3-202, HTTP://LE.UTAH.GOV/XCODE/TITLE79/CHAPTER3 /79-3.HTML) With Archiving Geologic Data, and Is the Only Utah Organization to Provide Geologic Maps and Data, Geologic-hazard Reports/data, and Significant, Statewide Coverage of Historical Aerial Photography Online. the Ugs Also Manages the Ucrc, the Region's Only Publicly Available and Most Complete Collection of Geologic Core and Cuttings From Utah. Preserving and Enabling Easy Access to These Materials Is Critical to the Long-term Survival of Important Geologic Data, Enabling and Improving Natural Resource Stewardship, Lowering Development and Infrastructure Costs, Protecting the Public From Geologic Hazards, and Fulfilling Our Statutory Mission. It Is Critical That This Data Be Cataloged and Preserved for Current and Future Use, as Demands for Natural Resources, Development in Geologically Hazardous Areas, and Environmental Issues Increase. Industry, Consultants, Government Agencies (federal, State, and Local), Academia, Educators, Students, and the Public Currently Use Collections and Data Held by the Ugs in a Variety of Projects and Programs. This Project Will Enable the Ugs to Catalog and Digitally Convert a Portion of Our Unique Holdings for Easier Access by Users, as Well as Preserving Them Long-term for the Future.
