Project Titledeveloping, Implementing, and Improving Models and Methods to Accurately Represent Water and Subsurface Resources Relevant for Predicting Water Availability and Use Concerns Project PERIOD10 01 2022 09 30 2023AWARD Purposethe Proposed Research Is Part of a Larger Project Aimed at Developing an Enterprise Ecosystem of Integrated and Interoperable Models and or Model Codes That, When Linked Through One or More Model Coupling Frameworks, Provide a Flexible Representation of Water Availability Suitable for Addressing Wma Programmatic Needs, Broader Modeling Needs, and or External Stakeholder, Partner, and Agency Needs Implemented Models in the Ecosystem Will Be Considered the Best Available Science for Each Respective Water Availability Component Including the States of the Water Cycle, Water Uses, Water Quality Constituents, and Hydroecological Conditions MODFLOW6 Is Providing the Initial Framework Which the Ecosystem of Codes Models Will Be Coupled With, and Intimate Knowledge of This Code Is Imperative Parallelization Solutions Will Be Developed Using Interoperable Components and Modern Software Engineering Techniques as Part of This Project to Enhance the Execution Time of Existing Numerical Models Problems and Provide an Ability to Compute Larger and More Resource Intensive Problems These Software Solutions Will Be Documented and Implemented That Inevitably Will Improve Models and Methods That Accurately and Rapidly Represent Advanced, Consistent Approaches for Forecasting Hydrologic States, Fluxes, and Outcomes for Water Availability to Improve Predictions of Water Availability at a Range of Temporal and Spatial Scales Additionally, the Capacity of an Interoperable Design Allows Models of Federal, Academic, Non Governmental Organizations, and Private Partners to Connect and Integrate Activities to Be Performedin Particular, the Following Activities Are Foreseen 1 Provide a Senior Level Software Architect Familiar With Enterprise Capacity Software Modflow 6 Development to Aid With Design, Review Ongoing Development Efforts, and Provide Mentorship to Usgs and Deltares Team Members 2 Continued Collaborative Parallel Development a Finalize Parallelization of Interface Model B Use Petsc as Initial Parallel Solver C Documentation D Training Materials E Implement Windows Distribution STRATEGIES3 Collaboratively Evaluate Ims Solver PARALLELIZATION4 Provide Deltares Staff to Assist With Maintenance and Support of Enterprise Capacity Software Modflow 6 Deliverables and Expected Outcomesdeltares Usa Will Deliver Support for Enterprise Ecosystem of Integrated and Interoperable Models to Complete the Buildout of the System Thus Permitting the Statewide Application of the Modeling System Deltares Usa Will Deliver Public Dissemination of Knowledge via a Peer Reviewed Article Intended Beneficiary Ies All Persons Concerned Will Benefit From the Public Dissemination of Knowledge via the Peer Reviewed Journal Article
