The Fish and Wildlife Service at the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge Has Allocated Funds for Projects Focused on Restoration and Research, Particularly in Habitat Restoration Centered Around Youth Engagement, Education, and Employment. If Awarded, the Wisconsin Conservation Corps (wiscorps), Operating as Central Conservation, Inc., Will Station One Americorps Individual Placement at the Refuge. the Wiscorps Member Will Serve as a Biology Program Assistant. With the Refuge Covering 44,000 Acres, Wiscorps Will Expand and Enhance On-the-ground Field Efforts in Habitat and Wildlife Management.necedah NWR Is Located in Northern Juneau County, Wisconsin. Once Part of Glacial Lake Wisconsin, the Refuge Is Made Up of an Ancient, Exposed Lakebed Where Shallow Surface Water Streams Life Into Historic Oak Savannas and Sand Prairies. After Seeing Its Importance for Migratory Birds, Franklin D. Roosevelt Set Aside the Refuge in 1939 to Protect Breeding and Resident Wildlife and for Generations of People to Enjoy. Necedah NWR Is a Diverse Ecosystem Including Open Tallgrass Prairies, Sprawling Savannas, Oak-pine Barrens, Upland Mixed Forests, and Numerous Wetland Types Including Sedge Meadows. the Refuge Is Home to More Than 230 Bird Species Including Whooping Cranes, Red-headed Woodpeckers, Golden-winged Warblers, and Bobolinks. It Is Also Home to Black Bears, Gray Wolves, American Badgers, Boghaunter Dragonflies, Blandings Turtles and Many More Plants and Animals. Wiscorps Will Recruit, Onboard, and Place One Americorps Individual Placement Member to Serve for 19 Weeks, Beginning in April 2026. the Service Member Is Expected to Complete a Total of 675 Hours of Service, Which Will Involve a Schedule of 40 Hours Per Week. in This Role, the Member Will Assist With Habitat and Wildlife Management Tasks at the Refuge and Will Report to Both the Refuge S Wildlife Biologist and Wiscorps Individual Placement Program Manager. Responsibilities Will Include Habitat Monitoring, Invasive Plant Control, Vegetation Surveys, Wildlife Surveys, and Field Data Collection. the Position Will Involve Spending 90% of the Time in the Field and 10% in the Office. the Member Will Gain Hands-on Professional Experience and Industry-recognized Certifications While Enhancing the Refuge S Current Capabilities. Upon Successful Completion of the Position, They Will Earn an Americorps Education Award of Approximately $2,800.FOUNDED in 2009, Central Conservation, Inc.
