Project Summary: Implementation of Prescribed Fire on 36 Acres at Marvin and Marie Spores Conservation Area:this Project Focuses on the Strategic Use of Prescribed Fire to Restore and Maintain the Health of a Native Prairie Habitat. the Mission Is to Enhance Ecological Function, Support Biodiversity, and Increase the Resilience of Prairie Ecosystems Through the Reintroduction of Fire as a Natural and Necessary Management Tool. the Projects Goals Include Reducing Invasive Plant Species, Promoting Native Grass and Wildflower Regeneration, Improving Habitat for Grassland-dependent Wildlife, Thatch Reduction and Reducing the Risk of Uncontrolled Wildfires.the Population Served by This Project Includes a Broad Cross-section of Stakeholders: Local Residents, Conservationists, Recreational Users (such as Birdwatchers, Various Wildlife Tours), and Nearby Rural and Agricultural Communities. Indigenous Groups and Cultural Practitioners Who Value Fire as a Traditional Land Stewardship Tool Will Also Benefit From the Revitalization of Fire-adapted Landscapes as a Possible Place to Future First Food Harvest or as an Example of Fire Implementation.the Impact on the Community Is Both Ecological and Social. Ecologically, the Prairie Will Experience Improved Soil Health, Water Retention, and Native Species Diversity. Socially, the Project Supports Education and Outreach on Sustainable Land Management, Increases Opportunities for Outdoor Recreation and Ecotourism, and Fosters a Greater Sense of Stewardship Among Residents. Ultimately, the Project Strengthens Community Resilience by Reducing Wildfire Risk and Building a Healthier, More Vibrant Natural Environment That Supports Both People and Wildlife.activities to Be Performed:- Burn Plan Creation- Site Prep Including Perimeter Fire Line Break Mowing, Large Fuel Woody Debris Removal - Prescribed Fire Permitting Including Lane Regional Air Protection Agency (lrapa), Coordination With Local Fire Authorities and Districts and Coordination With Oregon Department of Forestry and Lane County (road Flagging Permitting)- Coordination and Contracting of Fire Resources for Implementation. This Will Be Done by Mckenzie River Trust Staff Person.- Mop Up and Patrol Post Fire (MRT Staff and Contracted Resources)
