Borderlands Restoration Network BRN Is Based in Patagonia Az and Is Dedicated to Ecological Restoration in the Us Mexico Borderlands. the Native Plant Program at BRN Strives to Promote and Protect Biodiversity by Providing Individuals Communities and Land Managers Access to Restoration Quality Plant Materials and Guidance for Effective Use. the Program Offers Organically Grown Plants and Seeds Specific to the Madrean Archipelagos Semiarid Highlands Focusing on Those With High Habitat Value and Survival Rates.the Plant Program Consists of the Seed Lab a Seed Storage and Processing Facility. the BRN Native Plant Nursery a Plant and Seed Propagation Facility and Both Facilities Are Situated on a 50 Acre Farm That the Organization Is Under Contract to Purchase by 2024 for the Purpose of Expanding Farmed Native Seed Production.the Native Plant Program at BRN Has a Decade of Experience in Producing Restoration Quality Container Plants and Collecting Seeds of Local Ecotypes of Native Plants for Use in Burned Area Rehabilitation Revegetation of Grazed Lands Erosion Control and Habitat Restoration Projects. However as the Southwestern United States Has Become Increasingly Vulnerable to Numerous Climate Change Related Impacts Especially Wildfires There Is an Urgent and Growing Need for Larger Quantities of Plant Materials With Local Genotypes for Landscape Scale Restoration That Has Proven Difficult and Expensive to Meet With Wild Seed Collection and Nursery Production.to Reach BRNS Goal of Increasing Nursery Plant Production for the Rehabilitation Ofburned Areas the Project Activity Has One Main Objective.nursery Production. to Increase Nursery Container Production Through the Purchase and Installation on a State of the Art Greenhouse for Increased Restoration Outplantings and Farmed Seed Outplantings.this Program Has the Potential to Provide Genetically Appropriate Native Container Plants in the Quantities Needed for Landscape Scale Restoration to Land Managers in Southern Arizona and New Mexico for Many Years to Come. This Project Seeks to Build on BRNS Years of Experience in Native Plant and Seed Production Focused on Local Ecotypes Furthering Numerous Guiding Principles From the America the Beautiful Executive Order Including Locally Led and Locally Designed Conservation Efforts. This Project Also Seeks to Increase Native Seed and Seedling Supply With an Emphasis on Improving the Sustainability and Affordability of Regionally Appropriate Local Ecotypes in Order to Fill Gaps and Bolster the Native Seed Supply Chain in Response to Goal 1 of the National Seed Strategy for Restoration and Rehabilitation. Finally This Project Furthers the Strategy of the Un Decade on Ecosystem Restoration by Supporting Actions Such as Restoration on the Ground Capacity Building for Seed Production and Celebrating a Culture of Restoration.
