From 2021 to Date, Has Been Collaborating Through the FWS Agreement No. F20AC10412002 to Perform Conservation Actions for the Habitat Restoration and Enhancement of the Only Populations of Atlantea Tulita Known to Occur in the West-central Volcanic Serpentine Region of Puerto Rico.this Proposal Will Start a New Project in the Northern Karst and the West-central Volcanic Serpentine Regions of PR and Is Geared to Expand and Strengthen the Conservation Milestones Achieved Through F20AC10412001 Phase 1 in FY2020 With Cesfo S Recovery Funding and Its Successful Reiteration of F20AC10412002 Phase 2 in FY2021. During Phase 1, Two Landowners With FWS and Envirosurvey Signed Two Collaboration Agreements. All Related Practices Are Certified According to Procedures. Parallel to Submitting This Proposal, We Are Still Working in Phase 2, Searching for Four New Loas.our New Project Proposal Comprises Conservation Practices Through No-cost Loas for the Habitat of a. Tulita Involving the Planting of Approximately 1,300 Oplonia Spinosa and 1,100 Native Shrubs Trees. in Addition, the New Proposal Will Allow the Engagement of New Private Landowners Interested in Implementing Habitat Restoration and Conservation Actions for Managing Land and Water Resources to Benefit the Threatened Puerto Rican Harlequin Butterfly.we Propose a Conservation Strategy for the Habitat of a. Tulita That Entails Developing an Educational and Outreach Component to Actively Engage Private Landowners in Crucial Habitat Restoration and Enhancement Practices With a Focus on Expanding and Improving Essential Habitats Within the Species Distribution Range. Strategic Workshops Will Include Educational and Outreach Components for Landowners, Local and Community Groups, and Field Personnel From Related Local, State, and Federal Agencies. the Habitat Restoration and Enhancement Practices Will Promote the Connectivity of the a. Tulita Habitat Between Privately-owned Lands and Designated Critical Habitat Areas for the Species. Enhancement of Habitat Conditions Will Center on the Propagation and Planting of Oplonia Spinosa, the Host Plant of a. Tulita, and Other Native Plant Species.this Proposal Will Supplement Other Ongoing Landscape-level Efforts Within the Regions of Interest, Such as the Shade-grown Coffee Restoration Initiative. in Addition, the Targeted Conservation Areas Comprised Agricultural Lands That Provide Habitat for Numerous Wildlife Species, Including Resident and Migratory Birds, the Elfin-woods Warbler, and Eventually, the Puerto Rican Parrot.the Proposed Project Objectives Are: 1) Conduct Three Outreach Workshops for 60 Landowners in the West-central Volcanic Serpentine Regions. the Workshops Will Explain the Importance and Need for Landowners Participation in the Strategy to Preserve and Expand the Essential Habitat for the Remaining Populations of a. Tulita on Their Properties. This Component Includes the Design and Acquisition of Outreach Materials 2) Acquire or Propagation of Approximately 1,300 Oplonia Spinosa and 1,100 Native Shrubs Trees 3) Establish No-cost Loas With Private Landowners Attending the Workshops and Willing to Participate in the Conservation Initiative of a. Tulita. Each Signed Agreement Will Include the Delivery of 20-30 Trees to Implement the Conservation Practices on Their Private Lands 4) as Part of the Workshops, Identify Potential Partners for Establishing No-cost Loas, Including Technical Assistance 5) Seek Partnerships With Local Land Management Agencies and Environmental and Community Groups to Participate in the Educational and Outreach Component of the a. Tulita Conservation Initiative and 6) Collaborate With FWS in the Certification Process of Implemented Conservation Practices Included in the No-cost Loas and Monitoring the Survivorship of Planted Individuals for at Least One Year.
