The U.s. Fish and Wildlife Service Service Draft Recovery Plan for Rufa Red Knot Calls for Protection of All of the Most Important Tier 1 Wintering and Stopover Habitat Areas for the Species. Ensuring the Effective Protection of Each Tier 1 Site First Requires Their Identification and Characterization. the Purpose of This Project Is to Contribute to the Recovery of the Rufa Red Knot Population Through the Identification, Mapping, and Characterization of Tier 1 Wintering and Migration Stopover Sites Across the Species Range. This Purpose Will Be Accomplished Through the Following Tasks Activities 1 Develop a Template for Local Partners to Propose Sites for Tier 1 Status 2 as Needed, Assist Local Partners With the Preparation and Submission of the Necessary Documentation 3 Review Submitted Documentation to Ensure That Each Tier 1 Site Meets the Criteria Listed in the Final Recovery Plan, Once Released 4 for Each Tier 1 Site, Complete a Documentation Package With a Map, Summary Description of the Site, Summary Evidence for How It Meets the Tier 1 Criteria, and Supporting Citations Data, as Well as an Esri-compatible Geographic Information System Gis Layer of the Site Boundary.
