International Crane Foundation (ICF) Has Been a Leader in Reintroducing a Second, Migratory Population of Whooping Cranes in the Eastern U.s. the Growth and Security of This Eastern Population Is Critical to Recovery of the Species and Its Removal From the Endangered Species List. Project Includes Captive Breeding and Rearing of Whooping Crane Chicks, Specialized Veterinary Care, and Targeted Research and Monitoring of Reintroduced Cranes. Icf Will Breed Cranes From Its Carefully Managed Captive Flock and Rear Chicks for Direct Release Into the Wild.icf Will Maintain Healthy Adult Captive Crane Pairs at the Its Facility in Baraboo, Wisconsin and Rearing Chicks to Fledgling Age. Our Goal Is to Maintain the Health of the Breeding Adults and Reintroduced Chicks Needed for Optimal Performance Through State-of-the Art Preventative Health Care and Emergency Response Programs. Icfadvances Crane Reintroduction Science Through Studies of Nesting Success, Habitat Use, and Chick Rearing Methods. Research Focuses on Three Areas: Understanding the Patterns for Successful Reproduction in the Reintroduced Population as They Use Different Areas of Wisconsin, Studying Habitats Used by the Cranes in Breeding Andwintering Areas, and Investigating How Rearing Methods Impact the Development of Wild Behaviors.
