We Have Been Working in Asotin Creek Since 2007 Testing the Effectiveness of Low-tech Processbasedrestoration and Have Found That Summer Steelhead Abundance and Productivity Hasincreased in Restoration Areas in Asotin Creek. Bull Trout Have Been Captured But Are at in Lowabundance in the Lower and Middle Portions of the Watershed - But They Are Expected to Benefitfrom the Low-tech Restoration. Historic Data Suggests There Are Resident and Fluvial Bull Troutthat Use the Upper Asotin Tributaries - But Current Data Is Lacking. a Large Wildfire in the Summerof 2021 Burnt Much of the Headwaters of Asotin Creek Including Riparian Areas. We Areproposing to Do a Rapid Assessment of the Distribution and Relative Abundance of Bull Trout Andrelate That to the Fire Severity Damage in Tributaries, Develop and Emergency Restorationmitigation Plan, and Implement Low-tech Restoration (if Appropriate) in High Priority Areas. Thisproject Will Also Fit Well With Our Ongoing 15 Year Intensively Monitored Watershed Experimentby Providing Information About Excess Sediment Threats as Well as Potential Buffering Theexisting 14 KM of Restoration We Have Already Implemented.
