This Project Is a Collaboration Between Tom Bessette (private Landowner/rancher) and the Arcata Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program to Protect 65 Acres of Adjoining Wetland Habitat and 3,400 Feet of Stream Channel in Lower Hunter, Salt, Mynot, and Spruce Creeks, Tributaries to the Klamath River Estuary in Klamath, California.tom Bessette and the Service Will Work Collaboratively to Rebuild and Relocate the Existing Livestock Exclusionary Fencing to Continue to Exclude Livestock From the Lower Hunter, Salt, Mynot and Spruce Creek Riparian Zones and Adjoining Wetlands. in Addition, We Will Replace the Existing Off-channel Water Tanks With Properly Sized and Long-lasting Concrete Tanks and Construct Cross Fencing in Both Pastures to Allow for Seasonal Rotation of Livestock Under Varying Seasonal Wetland Conditions.continued Protection of This Riparian Zone and Adjoining Wetlands Will Benefit Migrating and Rearing Coho Salmon, Chinook Salmon, Steelhead, Coastal Cutthroat Trout and Pacific Lamprey. the Seasonal Wetlands in the Lower Portions of the Pastures Regularly Host Several Waterfowl Species, Including Mallard, Wood Ducks, Green-winged and Cinnamon Teal, Ring-necked Duck, American Wigeon, and Gadwall. in Addition, This Project Will Benefit Several Species of Migratory Birds, Including Olive-sided Flycatcher, Rufous Hummingbird, Yellow Warbler, Wilson's Warbler, and Chestnut-sided Chickadee, as Well as Enhancing Breeding and Rearing Habitat for Northern Red-legged Frogs.
