This Project to ?enhance Wastewater Infrastructure Resilience and Environmental Protection in Pohnpei.? Aims to Modernize and Fortify Pohnpei?s Wastewater Infrastructure to Reduce Environmental Risks, Improve Operational Resilience, and Ensure Compliance With Public Health and Environmental Standards. the Initiative Addresses Two Critical Vulnerabilities in the Current System: 1. Overflow Risk at Pump Stations Due to Undersized Wet Wells and Power Outages. 2. Environmental Contamination From Outdated Sludge Dewatering Practices Near Sensitive Mangrove Ecosystems. the Key Components of the Program Include: Implementation of a Modern Sludge Dewatering Facility at the WWTP Using a Screw Press Sludge Dewatering System; Installation of Backup Power Systems (generators and Automatic Transfer Switches) at LS01, LS02, and LS03; and Decommissioning and Rehabilitating the Old Sludge Drying Bed Site Near the Airport.
