Application Purpose: the Purpose of the Award Is to Provide Funding to Support the Following PROJECTS:1. Systemwide Track Rehabilitation State of Good REPAIR2. Communication System and Signal REHABILITATION3. Caltrain Railcar Replacement; Activities Performed: Funds Will Cover the Cost to Perform Caltrain Systemwide State of Good Repair Including Track Rehabilitation Related Civil Improvements Creek Crossing Improvements as Well as Communications and Signal State of Good Repair. Funds Will Be Used to Purchase Electric Multiple Unit Trainsets to Replace Old Diesel Locomotives.; Expected Outcomes: Funding Will Allow the Continued Operation of Service Maintain Safe and Reliable Levels of Service Address Growing Customer Needs Provide the Capability for Future Increases in Service and Enhance Operational Flexibility. Funding Will Also Enable Caltrain to Eliminate Diesel Service Originating and Terminating on the Main Transit Link Between the Major Employment Centers of San Francisco and San Jose Reducing Emissions and Noise Pollution in the Equity Priority Communities Along the Corridor. the Project Will Advance the Us Department of Transportation (us Dot) Goal of Transitioning to a Cleaner and More Energy-efficient Future.; Intended Beneficiaries: Population of the San Francisco Peninsula San Jose and Gilroy Service Area and Commuter Rail Riders; Subrecipient Activities: None
