The Shawnee Language Immersion Program (SLIP) Represents the Next Step in a 10-YEAR Strategic, Phased Plan to Preserve and Revitalize the Shawnee Language. (please See the Proclamation of the State of Emergency for the Shawnee Language Attached to This Application: Llgpstateofemergency.shawneetribe.slip.pdf). Over the Past Three Years, the Shawnee Tribe Language Department Has Carried Out Phase One, Building Technological Infrastructure, Creating Classroom Language Resources and Curricula, Recruiting and Training Community Language Preservationists (CLPS), and Developing a Pool of New Shawnee Language Learners. the CLPS Are Individuals Who Have Attained at Least an Intermediate or Advanced Learner Level of Proficiency in the Shawnee Language and Who Have Been Trained to Provide Instruction to New Learners in a Virtual Classroom Setting. the Proposed Project Will Initiate Phase Two of the Strategic Plan With a Transition to Immersion Language Learning, Recruitment and Training of Master Teachers and Apprentices From the Pool of CLPS, Development of Immersion-specific Curricula and Resources, and the Delivery of Immersion Language Instruction to Shawnee Learners of All Ages Through Language Nests Embedded in Community Settings and Cultural Activities.
