Description:this Project Will Provide Technical Assistance (e.g., Information, Training, Tools) to Businesses to Help Them Develop and Adopt Source Reduction Practices (also Known as Pollution Prevention (P2)). P2 Means Reducing or Eliminating Pollutants From Entering Any Waste Stream or Otherwise Being Released Into the Environment Prior to Recycling, Treatment, or Disposal. P2 Practices Can Help Businesses Save Money by Reducing Their Resource Use, Expenditures, Waste and Liability Costs, While at the Same Time Reducing Their Environmental Footprint and Helping to Protect Human Health and the Environment. Specifically, the Project Work Will Develop a Roadmap and Computational Tool for the Petroleum, Lubricant and Petrochemical Industries to Promote Efficiency and Reduce Hazardous Chemicals in the Automotive and Chemical Sectors. the Focus of the Applicant's Project Is Technical Assistance to Its Partner, the Exxonmobil Lubricants and Oil Blending Plant in Paulsboro, NJ. Utilizing Their Experience at This Exxonmobil Facility, Rowan University Will Build a Roadmap and Tools to Enable Re-evaluation, Redesign, Retrofitting of Petroleum Product and Packaging Pipelines That Will Be Shared Throughout the Chemical and Automotive Manufacturing Sectors. Activities:the Priorities for P2 Technical Assistance (information, Training, and Tools) Aligns With the Program's National Emphasis Areas (neas). Specifically, the Project Will Address Nea #2 (chemical Manufacturing, Processing, and Formulations) and Nea #3 (automotive Manufacturing, and Maintenance) and #2 (chemical Manufacturing, Processing, and Formulations). the Project's Focus Is on the Oil-based Chemical and Automotive Products Manufacturing and Packaging Industries. the Recipient Conduct On-site Technical Assistance at the Exxonmobil Plant in Order to Develop Best Management Practices for Reduce and Reusing Lubricant Oil. the Lessons Learned Will Be Shared Throughout the Chemical Manufacturing and Automotive Manufacturing Sectors. Subrecipient:no Subawards Are Included in This Assistance Agreement.outcomes:the Technical Assistance Conducted by the Grantee Will Benefit Facilities and, If Applicable, May Address Underserved Communities. the Grantee Is Expected to Report on P2 Performance Measures (outputs and Outcomes) and Note Who Will Benefit From the Technical Assistance as Well as Commit to Following-up With Facilities to Find Out Whether the Technical Assistance Was Adopted and Implemented. Specifically, the Grantee Anticipates Providing: Outputs: - Documenting the Environmental Justice (EJ) Demographics in Neighboring Areas of the Facility Provided P2 Technical Assistance via the P2 Ej Tool - Visiting Our Industrial Partners and Conducting Semi-annual Review Sessions - Dissemination Efforts Resulting in at Least 4 Presentations at Regional/national Conferences, 3 Journal Publications, and Several Press Releases/newsletter Articles - Case Study on the Project, Resulting in an Easy to Understand Fact Sheet - Outreach to Schools in Underserved Communities in South Jersey to Emphasize Safe Practices When Handling Petroleum and Lube Oils Outcomes: - Reduction of Hazardous Wastes: 1200 Lbs/yr - Reduction in Carbon Dioxide Equivalent: 560 Lbs/yr - Energy Savings: 1900 Kwh/yr - Water Conserved: 23,000 Gallons/yr - Cost Savings: 4.42 Million Dollars/yr - Ej: Dollar Savings and Health Benefits - Reduction in Occupational Hazards, Increased Awareness Beneficiaries: - Exxonmobil Lubricants and Oil Blending Plant in Paulsboro, NJ - the Chemical and Automotive Manufacturing Sectors in New Jersey and Beyond - the Underserved Community Adjacent to the Exxonmobil Plant in Paulsboro, NJ
