Description:this Agreement Provides Funding to the American Lung Association (DC). Specifically, the Recipient Will Continue Its Ongoing Work to Support Implementation of the National Radon Action Plan, and to Build National-scale Capacity and Systems to Increase the Number of New Homes, Schools and Workplaces Built With Radon-resistant New Construction, and the Number of Existing Homes, Schools and Workplaces Mitigated for Elevated Levels of Radon Gas. Expanding National Radon Action 2024-2027 Has Two Primary Objectives: 1) to Support the Implementation of the National Radon Action Plan, and 2) to Build the Capacity of Underserved Communities to Reduce Radon Risk. Activities:the National Radon Action Plan, and This Project, Places an Emphasis on Accelerating the Pace of Radon Risk Reduction by Advancing Policy and Systems Change in Four Key Ways: - Building Radon Risk Protection Into Laws and Policies Affecting All Buildings; - Creating Systems to Ensure the Availability of Resources to Address the Problem in Under-resourced Communities; - Training, Certifying and Supporting a Skilled and Sustainable Radon Workforce; and - Empowering Trusted Community Leaders to Educate Their Constituents About the Need to Protect Themselves and Their Families. the Activities Include: - Supporting Implementation of the National Radon Action Plan. - Building the Capacity of Underserved Communities to Reduce Radon Risk.subrecipient:the Subawards Are Intended to Incentivize Meaningful Participation of Community Members in Planning and Implementing Activities That Will Lead to Increased Community Capacity to Address Radon Risk. Capturing Those Community Experiences and Successes in Case Studies Will Serve to Empower Other Similar Communities to Take Action.outcomes:the Anticipated Deliverables Include: - 6 Bi-monthly Meetings, Including Annual Strategic Planning and Assessment Meetings - Regular Meetings of 4 Goal Area Work Groups - Findings From Interest Assessment - 2 Organized Communities of Practice - Work Products as Identified by Each Group - 2 Policy Backgrounders - 2 Informational Webinars - Work Team Planning Meetings as Needed - Updated 5-YEAR National Radon Action Plan - Summary of Findings - List of Stakeholders - Stakeholder Consensus on a Menu of Strategies - List of Target Communities - 6 Underserved Communities Receive Support Resources, Training and Technical Assistance - 4 to 6 Case Studies Detailing Results From Community Mini-grants - 1 Informational Webinar Annually the Expected Outcomes Include: - Effective Implementation of the National Radon Action Plan - Increased Policy and Systems Changes Nationwide - Increased State and Local Capacity to Implement Effective Strategies - Increased Awareness of Effective Interventions in Underserved Communities - Increased Capacity to Engage Underserved Communities - Increased Awareness and Adoption of Effective Risk Reduction Strategies in Underserved Communities - Reduced Radon Risk in Homes, Schools and Workplaces, and Lives Saved the Intended Beneficiaries Include Underserved Communities: Urban Areas With a High Density of Rental Housing, Rural Areas That Lack Trained and Certified Radon Service Providers, Lower Income Areas Where Homeowners Lack the Financial Resources to Test and Mitigate Their Homes, and Immigrant Communities Where Low Levels of English-language Proficiency Hamper Access to Available Resources.
