The Intent of This Aerospace Vehicle Systems Institute (AVSI) Authority for Expenditure (afe 77S2) Sma Test Methods Phase 3 Is to Continue the Overall Effort Toward the Technical Development and Eventual Public Release of Standardized Test Methods for Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) Materials and Actuator Components for Use in Certifiable Aerospace Applications as Initiated in Afe 77. There Are Currently No Accepted Industry or Government-accepted Standardized Test Methods for Sma Materials When Used as Actuators. While There Exists a Broad Range of Potential Applications for Smas on Aerospace Platforms Their Transition to Production Is Hindered by a Lack of Accepted Industry and Regulatory Testing and Certification Standards for Sma Material. Existing Public Standards Only Address Issues Related to Uses in the Medical Industry. the Objective of This Overall Project Is to Identify Critical Sma Material and Actuator Requirements and to Develop and Propose Baseline Material and Shape Memory Test Methods to Influence and Inform the Formation of Public Standards in Collaboration With an Established Standards Development Organization (sdo).
