Award Purpose Through This Project the New Bedford Harbor Development Commission Will Design and Build a North South Bulkhead at the North Terminal in New Bedfords Upper Harbor. the New Bulkhead Will Be Backfilled With Geotechnically Suitable Clean Sediment as Obtained Through the Construction of a Confined Aquatic Disposal Cad Cell Supporting Navigational Harbor Dredging. the Project Includes One Major Procurement for a Contractor That Will a Build the North Terminal Bulkhead, B Backfill the Bulkhead With Clean Material, and C Purchase American-made Steel to Build Thebulkhead. Activities to Be Performed the North Terminal Extension Project Consists of Creating a New Bulkhead and Terminal, Backfilling the Bulkhead With Geotechnically Suitable Material Sourced From a New Confined Aquatic Disposal Cad Cell, the Cad Cell Construction and Phase V Dredging. North Terminal Bulkhead This Project Includes Design and Construction of an Estimated Additional 975 Linear Feet of Bulkhead, Comprised of Cellular Cofferdams. the Bulkhead Will Extend From the Existing Environmental Protection Agency Building Site and Continue North to Adjoin an Existing Bulkhead That Is Located North of the Area. Component 2 Backfill and Terminal Backfill the Newly Constructed Bulkhead Will Be Backfilled With Approximately 200 000 Cubic Yards of Clean Suitable Material Sourced From the Cad Cell and an Estimated 75000 Cubic Yards of Imported Structural Fill Will Be Used for the Cellular Cofferdams Terminal Approximately 350,000 Square Feet of Upland Terminal Space Will Be Created Through the Area Backfilled Landward of the Bulkhead. the Terminal Area Will Be Filled With a Finish Layer of Dense Graded Aggregate. Component 3 Cad Cell Construction and Phase V Dredging Cad Cell Construction the Project Consists of Creating a Cad Cell Within the Harbor That Will Have Thecapacity to Hold Approximately 450 000 to 500 000 Cubic Yards Over an Area of 620 000 Square Feet. the Design for the Cad Cell Has Been Previously Completed. the First Layer of Approximately 30000 Cubic Yards of Dredged Material Will Be Disposed in an Existing Cad Cell Located in the Harbor the Subsequent Layer of Approximately 300 000 to 320 000 Cubic Yards Will Be Disposed at an Offshore Disposal Site and the Final Layer of Approximately 200 000 Cubic Yards Will Be Used as Backfill for the North Terminal Bulkhead. Phase V Dredging the Project Consists of Dredging Approximately 70000 Cubic Yards of Contaminated Material Located in Front of the North Terminal and Approximately 380000 to 430000 Cubic Yards of Contaminated Sediment From the Harbor. These Materials Will Be Placed Into the Cad Cell.
