This Agreement Provides Support for Monitoring and Development of Results and Recommendations to Inform Management for a Variety of Species, Which Include Elk, Deer, and Cattle, in Response to Active Forest and Range Management Activities Intended to Achieve Multiple Use Objectives. These Activities Include Fuels Thinning and Timber Harvest, Riparian Grazing, and Long-term Research on Elk and Deer at Starkey Experimental Forest and Range That Benefits Recreational Hunting and Wildlife Management by Federal and State Partners Across the Western U.s. Work Outlined Will Continue Long-term Monitoring of Strategies for Management to Meet Multiple Use Objectives of Federal Land Management Agencies. Specific Outcomes Are: 1. Monitor Wildlife Responses to Forest Management and Wildfire Fuels Reduction; 2. Monitor Cattle Grazing Responses to Upland Range Management and Exclusion Fencing; and 3. Develop Draft Recommendations to Inform Multiple Use Management That Benefits Recreational Hunting, Cattle Grazing, and Wildlife Habitat. This Will Inform Ongoing Active Management to Reduce Wildfire Risks Through Understory Fuels Reduction, Active Cattle Grazing Management, and Management of Cattle, Elk, and Deer Across the Blue Mountains of Eastern Oregon and Larger Areas of the Pacific Northwest. If the Work Is Not Approved, the Needed Monitoring for Management Effectiveness Will Not Occur; Information That Directly Benefits Active Forest and Range Management (e.g., Timber Harvest and Grazing) Will Be Lost, and Existing Information Will Not Be Used to Maximize Their Benefits to Land Management for the NFS and Other Public and Private Partners. as a Consequence, This Will Result in Lost Opportunities to Improve Cattle Grazing That Benefits Local Ranchers, Target Wildfire Fuels Reduction and Timber Harvest That Makes Rural Communities Safer and More Prosperous, and Improve Habitat for Culturally Important Species That Provide Recreation and Economic Opportunities to the Public That Makes Broad Use of National Forests Across the Blue Mountains.
