The U.s. National Vegetation Classification (USNVC) Standards, a Foundation for Classifying and Mapping Vegetation Across the Nation, Provide a Standardized Approach Used by Various Federal Agencies and Their Partners. This Nested Hierarchy Enables Efficient Data Sharing and Analysis Across Different Scales by Various Federal Agencies and External Partners. the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) Develops and Promotes Geospatial Data Standards Sustaining the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (nsdi), Such as the National Vegetation Classification (NVC) Standards. the Forest Service Utilizes These Geospatial Data and Standards to Enhance Decision-making, Reduce Duplication, and Facilitate Data Exchange. the Forest Services Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) Data (mandated by Statute 16 U.s.c. 1642E to Provide Accurate and Timely Information on the Status and Trends of Our Nation's Private and Public Forests and Their Resources) Is an Official Geospatial National Geographic Data Asset (NGDA) on Land Cover Use and Change, Including Existing Vegetation, Recognizing the Critical Value It Brings to All Citizens, Industries and Governments. This Project Will Align the Nation's Forest Inventory Data on All Ownerships to the Most Recent Usnvc Standards (version 3.0). New Efficient and Robust Tools for Quality Assessment and Control Will Improve the Documentation and Rigor of the Final Data and Continue to Ensure the Reliability and Trustworthiness of Its Official Statistics. Additionally, While Implementing These Federal Standards (V3.0) Nationwide We Will Improve Consistency and Streamline Fia Processing Workflows, Building Better Consistency, Agility and Ability to Adapt. the Final Phase of the Work Develops Application Case Studies Using the Data in Estimation and Tech Transfer Sessions Through Natureserves Considerable Federal, State, Tribal and Private Networks, to Demonstrate and Support the Use of These Data for Internal and External Users. the Adoption of These Standards Across Federal Agencies and Non-federal Partners Represents a New Paradigm in Harmonized Information Availability and How Existing Vegetation Is Described Across All Ownerships and Lands. Left Unaddressed, Information About Forest Resources and Existing Vegetation Cover That Relates to Survey Data Used in Mapping Vegetation Associations, Project Approvals (for Regulatory Bodies), and Forest Health Trends in the United States Will Be Limited and Outdated, Largely Unavailable to Land Managers and Investors.
