This Project Will 1) Develop a Flexible Protocol That Can Be Used by National Forests to Detect and Monitor Invasive Plant Species in Fuel Treatment Projects, and 2) to Quantify the Impact of Prescribed Fire on Invasive Species in Sites Across the Interior West of the United States. a Draft of the Monitoring Protocol Was Developed in Direct Response to Requests by Several Region 1 National Forests to Produce Monitoring Guides and Data Management Support to Allow Detection of Invasive Plant Species and Document Responses of Understory Plants to Fuel Treatments. Forests Want These Products to Help Develop Methods That Proactively Mitigate the Risk of Invasive Plants Increasing After Fuel Treatments. This Project Will Allow Us to Add a Third Year of Post Prescribed Burn Monitoring at Sites Across Region 1, a Time Window Which Can Be Critical for Changes in Invasive Species Populations, and to Finish Work on Analyses and Deliverables.
