Lwyb Addresses Core Issues Important to Low-income Communities: Affordable Housing, Education, Employment, Leadership Development, and Energy Efficiency. the Programs Two-year Training Cycles Balance Project-based Learning With Occupational Skills Training to Prepare Disadvantaged Youth for Career Placement. Its Rigorous Academic Component Assists Youth in Obtaining Their Hiset (high School Diploma Equivalent) While Receiving Training That Supports Placement Into Career Pathways and or Further Education and Training. Lwyb Supports the Goal of Increasing Affordable Housing by Teaching Youth Construction Skills as They Renovate Affordable Housing Units for Rent to Low-income Families. Lwyb Also Offers an Alternative Occupational Track Using the Construction Plus Model in Two Integrated High-demand Employment Fields: Culinary Arts Hospitality Services. Lwyb Students, Upon Successful Training, Will Receive Industry-recognized U.s. Dol-approved Certifications. All Lwyb Students Will Participate in an Internship Placement and Have the Option to Receive Support in Pursuing Further Post-secondary Education. Construction Work Sites Feature the Substantial Rehabilitation of Two Vacant Apartment Units in Portland Housing Authoritys Low-income Public Housing Developments, Where Students Will Receive On-site Training Using the Nccer Curriculum.
