An Estimated 226 RSVP Volunteers Will Serve. of This Number, 150 RSVP Volunteers Will Be Placed in Outcome Assignments. Some of Their Activities Will Include Tutoring Struggling Readers So That They Are Reading by Grade 3; Reading to Low Income Head Start Children Who Often Don't Have Access to Books; Providing Companionship and More by Delivering Meals to Home-bound Residents and Providing Technology Training for Home-bound Seniors to Help Them Stay Connected; and Providing Skills Based Volunteers to Help Build the Capacity of Area Nonprofit Agencies to Improve Their Efficiencies. the Primary Focus Area of This Project Is Education. at the End of the Three-year Grant, 80% of Participating Head Start Children Will Demonstrate Gains in School Readiness as Evidenced by Have Increased Interest in Reading and Exposure to Books. 75% of Elementary School Children Who Worked With RSVP Literacy Tutors Will Improve Academic Performance as Evidenced by Improved Fluency And/or Comprehension and at Least 80% of Seniors Will Have Increased Social Support and Report an Increased Sense of Well-being and Social Connectivity. the CNCS Federal Investment of $141,403 Will Be Supplemented by $86,126.
