Handson Suburban Chicago (HOSC) Has Served as the Sponsoring Agency of the Senior Corps-rsvp of Northern Cook and Northern Dupage Counties Since 1992. an Estimated 725 RSVP Members Will Serve. of This Number, 260 RSVP Volunteers Will Be Placed in Outcome Assignments. Some of Their Activities Will Include: Tutoring Elementary and Middle School Students; Providing Other Classroom Support of Bilingual and English Language Learner(ell) Students Through Our Intergenerational Pen Pal Program; Job Readiness and Other Skill Development for Adult Ell Students; Transportation for Older Adults to Medical Appointments; Repair and Paint the Exterior of Homes of Eligible Seniors, Veterans or People With Disabilities; and Improved Financial Literacy and Tax Preparation. the Primary Focus Area of the Project Is Education. at the End of the Three Year Grant: (1) Through Tutoring Programs, 260 Elementary and Middle School Students Will Demonstrate Improved Academic Engagement or Social Emotional Skills; (2) Through the Intergenerational Pen Pal Program, 55 Students Will Demonstrate Improved Academic Engagement or Social-emotional Skills; (3) 8 Adult Ell Students Will Show Improved Job READINESS;(4) 67 Individuals Will Receive Transportation Services Resulting in Improved Access to Medical Care; (5) 6 Homes of an Eligible Senior, Veteran, or Person With Disabilities Will Be Painted or Repaired Resulting in a Transition to Safe, Healthy and Affordable Housing; and (6) 750 Eligible Individuals Will Receive No Charge Tax Preparation and Financial Literacy Assistance, Resulting in a Total of Approximately $755,000 in Tax Refunds to Clients. the CNCS Federal Investment of $187,618 Will Be Supplemented by Non-federal Resources of $95,673.
