Greene Lamp Community Action, a 501 (C)3 Nonprofit, Incorporated in 1965 Is Respectfully Submitting an Application for the Foster Grandparents Program to Serve Greene and Lenoir Counties, Respectively. the Foster Grandparent Program, Which Began in Lenoir and Greene Counties in 1972, Provides Motivated, Loving and Experienced Tutors and Mentors to Children and Youth. Our Foster Grandparent Volunteers Will Provide One-on-one Interaction and Serve Between 15-40 Hours a Week to Offer Effective Services to the Youth and Children Being Served. From the Initial Date to the Present Time, Approximately Five Hundred Volunteers Have Served in Greene and Lenoir Counties Totaling Over 3 Million Hours. Approximately Fifty-seven (57) Foster Grandparents Will Be Placed in Outcome Assignments, However, This Number May Increase Due to Community Needs. the Primary Focus Area of This Project Is Education. Some of Their Service Activities Will Include Social and Emotional Support, Serving People With Intellectual Disabilities, Juvenile Justice, Literacy and Mentoring. at the Completion of the Three-year Grant, Greene Lamp Anticipates an Increase in Children Demonstrating School Readiness Gains, Improved Academic Performance, Improved Social/emotional Skills and Improved Academic Engagement. the CNCS Federal Investment of $336,840.00 Will Be Supplemented by $37,426.00 of Anticipated Non-federal Resources. Studies Show That Volunteering Helps Seniors Live Longer and Will Promote a More Positive Outlook on Life.
