An Estimated 25 Volunteer Service Year (VSY) Volunteers Will Serve in the Senior Companion Program Sponsored by Catholic Charities West Michigan (CCWM) Providing Services in Muskegon and Newaygo Counties. the Senior Companion Program Volunteers Will Be Stationed Throughout These Counties Addressing Critical Community Needs. the Primary Focus Area for This Project Is to Increase the Ability of Frail Elderly or Disabled Clients to Safely Live Independently Longer. Over 100 Clients And/or Their Caregivers Will Be Able to Report They Were Able to Maintain Their Independence Longer and Perceived Stronger Community Connections and Support Due to Their Involvement in the Senior Companion Program. Senior Companion Volunteers Will Serve in and Partner With 6 Station Locations Which Include Senior Resources, Newaygo County Commission on Aging, Community Home Health Care, Daybreak Adult Services, Newaygo County Mental Health, and Area Agency on Aging West Michigan Which Service Clients Throughout Muskegon and Newaygo Counties. Program Volunteers Will Provide Over 26,000 Hours of Service Annually for the Stations Creating the Greatest Impact and Meeting the Highest Need. This Program Is Authorized by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) as a Non-federally Funded Program. Our Major Funder Is the Aging and Adult Services Through the State of Michigan Providing $47,324. Local Support Is Secured Through the Fremont Area Community Foundation (facf), Area Agency West Michigan (aaawm), and United Way Muskegon and Newaygo County.
