The Objectives of This Phase I STTR Are: 1) Advance Robust and Continuous Data Collection Methods From the Existing Lab-based Sensing System to Enable Proof-of-concept Field Testing Protocols. 2) Develop a Calibration Protocol for Lab and Fieldmeasurements Across Varied Soil Textures. 3) Conduct a Preliminary Usability Test and Sensorreliability Evaluation With Differentusers. the Project Aligns With the PROGRAM'S Priority of Improving Nutrient Management Andreducing Nutrient Load to Surface or Groundwater. Saturn AGRISENSE'S Novel In-soil Sensing System Will Provide Near Real-time, Depth-specific Soil Nitrate Concentration Measurements With Soil Moisture and Temperature Within the Rootzone, and the Ability to Estimate Nitrate Leaching Rates. the Resulting System Can Be Used to Optimize Fertilization Management in Intensified Crop Productionand to Assure Acceptable Soil Nitrate Concentration and On-site Leaching Transport in Urbanlandscapes Associated With Shallow Groundwater Tables.
