Sharing EXCESS' Project, Using Surplus as a Solution to Scarcity, in Partnership With the Usda Nifa, Will Serve 62 Philadelphia Zip Codes Through Food Distribution Services That Connect Surplus Food at Grocery Stores and Wholesalers to Community-based Food Access Organizations-ensuring No Food Ever Goes to Waste While There Are People to Feed. Through This Project, Sharing Excess Will Create a More Sustainable and Equitable Food System in Philadelphia While Also Expanding Food Choice by Ensuring 80% (or More) of Food Rescued Through the 4-YEAR Project Period Is Classified as Produce. Funding Provided by This Opportunity Will Allow Us to Further Expand Our Wholesale and Retail Collection and Distribution Network by Hiring Two Additional Drivers. One of These Drivers Will Focus on Expanding Sharing EXCESS' Retail Expansion and the Other Will Focus on Wholesale. Additionally, Sharing Excess Will Bring on 3 Half-time Sorter/packers Who Will Assist Our Team With the Increased Volume of Food Donations. by Adding These Positions to the Sharing Excess Team, We Are Able to Increase Donation Volume by an Additional 30,000 Pounds of Food Per Week-a Total of 6,240,000 Pounds for the 4-YEAR Project Period (or 5,200,000 Meals).
