With the Support of Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program (BFRDP) Funding, Rosebud Economic Development Corporation (REDCO) and Its Project Partner, Dakota Rural Action (DRA) Will Deploy Re-imagining Training for Beginning FARMERS' in South Dakota (rit BFSD), a Community-driven Initiative That Seeks to Increase the Number of Successful, Sustainable, and Profitable Beginning South Dakota Farmers and Ranchers From Underserved Areas and Socially Disadvantaged/limited Resource Populations Across South Dakota. Together and With Our Combined Networks, Redco and Dra Have Access to Hundreds of Farmers and Ranchers With the Developed Expertise to Present High-impact Peer-to-peer Trainings, On-farm Skill Development Sessions, and Mentorships Across South Dakota. Rit BFSD Will Be Implemented as Part of REDCO'S Food Sovereignty Initiative (fsi). Rit BFSD Will Focus on Engaging Beginning Farmers Without Direct Ties to Established Farmers or Farms, With Particular Attention to Serving Younger Members of Native American Tribes--with a Special Emphasis on Those Living on the Rosebud Indian Reservation--women and Military Veterans, Recognizing That These Target Audiences Are Traditionally Underrepresented in the Farming Sector and as Such, Have Unique Training and Support Needs. the Overarching Goals of Rit BFSD Are to Expandat Keya Wakpala Gardens to Develop an Innovative Beginning Farmer Incubator Program Focused on Developing Small-scale Producers and Improve DRA'S Traditional Farm Beginnings Program to Ensure That It Is Cultural Relevant to Native Americans and Adaptable to Diverse Groups.
