Region 8 Planning & Development Council

Region 8 Planning and Development Council (PDC) Was Established by West Virginia State Code in 1972 to Promote and Assist With Community and Economic Development of the Region. the Council Will Manage the RSVP With an Estimated 100 Volunteers Who Will Serve Across Berkeley, Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson, Morgan, Mineral and Pendleton Counties. Seventy-seven RSVP Volunteers Will Be Unduplicated and Will Be Placed in Outcome Assignments. Some of Their Activities Will Include Helping Low-income Individuals Gain Access to Food Through Distribution and Food Collection; and Providing Transportation to Individuals to Gain Access to Health Care; Providing Companionship to Seniors to Help Them Remain Living Independently; and to Provide Assistance With Local Organizations to Assist With Opioid/drug Intervention Through Education and Assistance With Programs Which Help With Recovery From Addiction. the Primary Focus Area of This Project Is Healthy Futures. at the End of the Three-year Grant, 25 Volunteers Will Provide 3000 Backpacks Filled With Food for 1000 Students Per Year to Have Food for the Weekend, 60 Individuals Will Receive Transportation to Provide Access to Food and Health Care Appointments Provided by 6 Unduplicated Volunteers, 40 Unduplicated Volunteers Will Assist With Food Collection and Distribution Through Local Food Banks and Community Sponsored Events Which Will Provide Nourishment for 700 Families and 10 Volunteers Will Assist by Providing Companionship to 100 Individuals to Assist With Aging in Place. the Remaining Volunteers Will Assist With Other Activities Including Education and Events to Assist With Drug Addiction and the Opioid Epidemic That the State of West Virginia Faces Today. the CNCS Federal Investment of $76,679 Will Be Supplemented by $32,862 in Non-federal Resources.
